Jeanne Dowell

Jeanne Dowell, former instructor under U.S. Olympic Committee, has been a pioneer in the Yoga movement in Orinda, California for over 40 years. She has taught students of all ages, levels and walks of life.

Iyengar Method

Jeanne is a certified instructor and trained in the Iyengar method and has studied with the Iyengar's at the Iyengar Instistitue in Pune, India. The Iyengar Method form of Hatha Yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The development of strength, mobility and stability is gained through the asanas.

Training Around The World

Jeanne's experience and studies with Zen Buddhism allows her to bring a heart centered approach to her classes. Her training has taken her throughout the world, including Greece, Morocco, Mexico, Cuba. She interacts in a very personal way, providing individual attention with her students. Jeanne's theme oriented classes give you something to take home on how to live your Yoga in everyday life.

Green Buddha

Green Buddha was birthed from a loss and evolved through Dr. Seuss’s quote, “Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.” Jeanne explains, “Smiling because it happened took me into a whole new way of thinking and moved my grief into gratitude; instead of focusing on what I had lost . . . I focused on all the joy and love that I had experienced.” Inspired by her lesson in gratitude, Jeanne, along with her daughter Dana Dowell Windatt, launched Green Buddha.

Classes and Schedule

Jeanne teaches public classes at the Moraga and Orinda Community Centers. You can start a class at anytime. First class is always complimentary. She is also available for private sessions, for individuals or small groups, in your home or hers.
